Mr. Leon Keulder

President

Leon was formerly the Vice-President of BASA and held this position since November 2013. He became BASA President in 2016.

• Leon has long been involved with BASA in various aspects, which range from dealing with ethical issues, Codes and Tariffs relating
• to Biokinetics, working with Medical Aids and assisting with setting up clinical guidelines.
• Leon is the past chairman of the Gauteng Biokinetics Association.
• Born and grew up in Johannesburg, studied at RAU (UJ) and is currently doing his Masters in Biokinetics at (NWU)
• Married with 3 Children

Ms. Areta Potgieter

Vice-President

• Born and grew up in Pretoria.
• Graduated at the University of Port Elizabeth.
• Have been in private practice for 9 years in Port Elizabeth.
• Have served on the Eastern Cape Biokinetics association as Chairperson.
• Married with 2 children.

Prof. Leon Lategan

Regional Co-ordinator

• Leon Lategan studied at the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Pretoria and he spent 10 years at SA Medical Services and the past 15 years lecturing at the University of Johannesburg’s – Department of Sport and Movement Studies.
• He specialises in sports injury rehabilitation, isokinetics, health promotion and sport sciences and has published 17 peer-reviewed journal articles. Leon is a reviewer for two SA scientific journals and has acted as external examiner for more than 7 universities up to PhD level.
• He a member of several local & international associations and a founding member of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Sport Research (CISAR) within the University of Johannesburg.

Ms. Naomi Lubbe

Membership, Finance & Registration

Naomi is responsible for these functions: BASA Registration, Membership Enquiries, HPCSA Registrations and Malpractice Insurance and Finances.

• Born, Grew up and Matriculated in Vanderbijlpark.
• Widow with 2 children
• Worked in a financial environment for 24 years
• Completed my International Credit diploma in 2003 and NQF level 6 in 2008
• I started working for BASA in July 2012 and am passionate about what I do.

Mrs. Shannon Richter

Operations (CPD / Web / Accreditation)

Shannon is responsible for CPD matters, Practice Accreditation, Marketing & Advertising and the Website.

• Graduated at the University of Pretoria and pursued a career as a Biokineticist in the UK working for IPRS for 5 years.
• I returned to South African at the end of 2009 and joined BASA in July 2010 to assist with Administration, doing Marketing, Website Management and CPD administration and accreditations. (Part time)
• I work part time as a mobile Biokineticist
• I am Married and have 2 boys.

Dr. Jeanne Grace

Representative for HPCSA

Dr Jeanne represents BASA at the HPCSA and reports to EXCO on all related matters.

• BA Hons. Human Movement Science (Biokinetics) at the University of Orange Free State in 1994.
• PhD) Human Movement Science (Biokinetics) at University of Potchefstroom (North West Campus) – “The effect of a physical and combined health promotion intervention programme on some health indicators of South African Colliery executives”.
• Senior Lecturer (Dept. of Biokinetics & Sport Science) at the University of Zululand since 01/09/2009 onwards.
• Research field – Worksite health promotion. Exercise rehabilitation of chronic diseases and musculoskeletal injuries. Injury prevention.

Mr. Bertie Herbst

Practice Management

• To update and maintain BASA coding structures to facilitate medical aid claims by Biokineticists.
• To update and maintain ICD-10 codes in accordance with existing legislation.
• To assist effective management of scope implementation within a practice
• To assist in regards the setup of practices and the regulations there off
• To establish a relationship with IOD and manage claims processes
• To participate in all forums related to coding structures and tariff design in accordance with existing legislation, namely Competition Act.
• To institute advocacy activities at the level of medical schemes and administrators to ensure the best interests of Biokinetics are accommodated. This includes the establishment of mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders.
• To work with all regions to ensure the PM strategy been implemented accordingly.
• To assist with ethical queries related to effective Practice Management
• To set up workshops related to effective practise management
• To understand the Labour Law and related issues that could affect a Practise.
• To formulate a Health Promotion Plan on an annual basis aimed at all stakeholders in SA to include, but not restricted to (a) Wellness Centres (b) Medical Schemes and Administrators.
